The road would replace part of the existing A43 through the village of Moulton
Plans to dual a 1.5-mile (2.5km) stretch of the A43 in Northamptonshire have passed their latest hurdle.
The county council wants to create a £18.75m dual carriageway on the A43 from north-east Northampton via Moulton.
A Northampton Borough Council planning meeting has approved the proposal "in principle".
Northamptonshire County Council will give a final decision on the project at a later date.
Daventry District Council, which covers the Moulton area, is due to consider its response to the plan on 1 July.
