Steven Smith died after being stabbed at his home in Rushden
A man accused of stabbing his friend to death refused to call paramedics, the dead man's girlfriend has told a court.
Ainsley Douglas said Danny Beaumont, 27, knifed his friend Steven Smith, 23, in the chest and then in the back, before running away.
She told Northampton Crown Court she tried to get her partner out of the house, but he collapsed and later died.
Mr Beaumont denies murder and claims Mr Smith "came at him" pushing himself on the blade.
Ambulance plea
Ms Douglas told the court that the two men fell out while drinking at her home in Rushden on 25 October 2014.
She told the court that during that argument she went upstairs, and when she came down she saw her boyfriend had been stabbed in the chest.
She said: "There was a slash across (his t-shirt) and blood."
She saw the defendant with a kitchen knife in one hand and looking angry.
"I panicked and asked for his phone to phone an ambulance.
"Steven looked pasty and said to call an ambulance. My phone was dead. I told (Danny) give me your phone so that I can phone an ambulance. He said no."
She said that when she went to charge her own phone to call for help she saw the defendant stab her boyfriend in the back.
Eventually a neighbour called the ambulance and paramedics and police arrived, but Mr Smith died of his injuries.
The trial continues.
