The work to paint double-yellow lines on Richmond Road took place on Wednesday evening
Double-yellow line painting has been left incomplete because of cars being parked on a road.
Several vehicles were blocking workers in Corby when the job was carried out on Wednesday evening.
Residents in Richmond Road have told the BBC they were not given advance notice it was going to take place.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council said it was looking into what happened and why some residents did not appear to have been told.

The road near the town centre has been used for free parking by non-residents, it was claimed

BBC Radio Northampton spoke to people who lived in the street who confirmed they had had a letter several months ago letting them know work was being considered, but there had been no follow-up giving them a precise date.
A Northamptonshire County Council spokesman said the decision to paint the lines was made after "many years" of complaints from residents about other people parking in the street, which is close to the town centre, and causing obstructions.
He said: "In late January this year we issued a notice of proposal to introduce double yellow lines on one side of the road - leaving some parking for visitors but reducing the obstruction problem.
"The decision was taken to address this site at night, when there are few vehicles parked.
"This location was not identified as a site that required letter drops and advanced warning, which extends the time taken and the resources used."
The council said it would finish painting the lines next week and signs would be put in place asking for motorists' co-operation.
