Teachers said the schools had to be able to meet the needs of their communities
Plans to increase the size of 13 infant and primary schools across Nottinghamshire by up to 50% are moving ahead.
The county council said it was facing surging demand for places because of a rise in the number of four-year-olds in certain areas.
The authority has been given £30m by the government to build extra capacity.
A four week consultation is to be held to determine how to manage the changes, but building will start in summer 2015.
John Peck, chair of the Children and Young People's Committee, said: "There have been some hotspots around the county which have a higher birth rate, so we have these pressure points around the county that we have tried to identify.
"Eventually, in a few years time, these increased numbers will filter through to secondary school and we will have to expand some of those in the future."
