The family asked for privacy while they come to terms with their loss
A two-year-old girl who died after being hit by a car outside Nottingham's Capital FM Arena has been named.
Evelyn Maria Celgy, from Crewe, was taken to hospital after the crash, in Bolero Square near the venue, on Saturday morning.
Her family issued a statement thanking the emergency services for the care of their "dearest" daughter.
It is thought Evelyn had been on her way to a religious convention at the Arena with her parents.
'Source of comfort'
The family statement said: "Sadly our dearest daughter passed away at Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, on Saturday at 7pm.
"Evelyn was involved in a tragic road traffic collision earlier that same day.
"We would like to pass our sincere thanks to Nottinghamshire Police, the paramedics, A & E staff and staff on the P.I.C.U (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit) ward at the hospital for all their compassion, sympathy, support and care provided.
"Special thanks to the hospital chaplain who was a great source of comfort.
"Thank you to the community, our family and friends for all their support, including our family liaison officer from Cheshire Police.
"We now request privacy whilst we come to terms with our loss."
Nottinghamshire Police appealed for witnesses to contact them.
