The trees have salt damage
Campaigners have called for nine cherry trees in a Shropshire town to be saved.
Shropshire Council is considering removing the trees in Red Square, Oswestry, because of damage to car park paving and iron grids around them.
Campaigner Jools Payne said there had been a "constructive meeting" at the square to discuss the trees' future.
However, he said it was found that all the trees were suffering from salt damage via cracks in the paving.
The council will consider the future of the trees at a meeting on 30 November.
Mr Payne said the group urged the council to "consider all options" to save the trees, including replacing contaminated soil.
Campaigners say when the the trees are in blossom they are a beautiful and distinctive sight for the town.
