Works to replace traffic lights in Taunton, which have failed several times recently, will begin on Sunday and last 12 weeks.
The signals being replaced are at the junction between Staplegrove Road and Station Road and delays are expected.
Work will take place during off-peak hours.
Somerset County Council said the lights would be better for the environment and reduce maintenance as they run on extra low voltage and use LED lights.
