The death of man who collapsed while in police custody was drug-related, an inquest jury has concluded.
Jan McLean was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences on 12 August 2013 and taken to Guildford police station.
He became unwell and was taken to hospital, where he died two days later, Woking Coroner's Court heard.
Recording a narrative verdict, the jury concluded 34-year-old Mr McLean died after swallowing an unknown amount of drugs.
He had taken them on the day of his collapse at an address in Collingwood Crescent, Guildford, of his own volition.
In a statement, Surrey Police welcomed the verdict and said it would respond to any recommendations made by the coroner.
"The events of 12 August 2013 resulted in the most tragic outcome of a man's death and Surrey Police offers its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Jan McLean," the force said.
