Up to £200,000 must be raised to save a school's swimming pool, officials say.
The pool at Sandown Primary School in Hastings was built 50 years ago but is now in need of a complete refurbishment and the school is responsible for paying maintenance costs.
Head teacher Charlie Lindsay said it was an "integral" part of the school and will have to close unless repairs are made.
The building is "near to the point of coming down", he added.
A spokeswoman for East Sussex County Council said : "The school is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of its pool.
"However, in 2009 we assisted the school in obtaining funding and installing a replacement pool heating boiler to help reduce the running costs."
She added the council would contact the school to arrange an inspection and offer "assistance" on the way forward.
