Joseph O'Riordan pleaded not guilty to attempted murder
The defence in the case of a town councillor accused of attempting to murder his wife has told the jury it will call no evidence.
Joseph O'Riordan, 73, of Guardian Court, Brookside Avenue, Polegate, is on trial for attempted murder at Brighton Magistrates' Court.
He has admitted wounding with intent, however, this has not been accepted by the prosecution.
The jury was told closing speeches will be made on Tuesday.
Amanda O'Riordan, 47, suffered multiple stab wounds during the attack in October 2014 at the home they shared.
She had previously told the trial - which is being held at a magistrates' court because of lack of space at Hove Crown Court - that her husband stabbed her in their bedroom.
Polegate Town Council said Mr O'Riordan was no longer a councillor because he had not been to a meeting since September, breaching the non-attendance rule.
The trial continues.
