Cleveland Police has been awarded £650,000 to spend upgrading mobile technology for its officers.
The intention is to make it easier for officers to access information while on the move.
Dep Ch Con Iain Spittal said the force had been rewarded for "forward thinking" that would make personnel more "visible" and less office-bound.
Cleveland Police has received the money from the Government's police innovation fund.
"Mobile working will enable officers and staff to do more whilst away from the office, reducing the need to return to police stations, and helping to increase visibility and their accessibility to members of our communities," Mr Spittal said.
