An area around the Globe Hotel was sealed off by police
A man has died after being found injured in a hotel in Cumbria.
An area around the Globe Hotel in Main Street, Cockermouth, was sealed off by police after the man was discovered shortly after 03:00 BST.
The man, who has yet to be identified, was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Cumbria Police are treating the death as murder and appealed for witnesses who were in the hotel on Saturday to contact them.
The victim has yet to be identified but a physical description has been issued.
He has a "distinctive" black panther tattoo on his upper right arm and an Alsatian dog's head tattooed on his upper back, between the shoulder blades, police said.
The force believes he is aged between 35 and 50.
Det Supt Cath Thundercloud urged witnesses or anyone who knew someone fitting the description of the victim to contact police.
"The person or people who are responsible for this attack would have blood on their clothing," she said.
"We would like to hear from anyone who may have noticed someone coming home with blood on their clothing, or washing their clothes in the early hours of the morning."
