A £2,000 reward has been offered for information about the attempted rape of a woman who was attacked at a remote spot beside the River Tees in Thornaby.

The woman, a dog walker in her 40s, was on a jetty when she was grabbed from behind and forced to the ground at about 09:00 BST on 6 July.

The woman hit her head on the concrete, but managed to fight off her attacker.

Charity Crimestoppers has offered the reward to appeal for information in the hope it will lead to a conviction.

Dave Hunter, regional manager for North East Crimestoppers, said: "This woman has gone through an ordeal that is every woman's nightmare, and had she not been able to fight off her attacker, the outcome could have been even worse.

"I'd ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time of this attack to contact Crimestoppers anonymously."
