Hitachi receives 14,000 job applications for new factory

Ahead of the opening of Hitachi's new £82m factory in Newton Aycliffe, BBC Look North has been to speak to the firm's apprentices.

The company, which will create more than 700 jobs, has said it has been inundated with jobs applications, receiving about 14,000 CVs.

Trainer Trevor Merchel said it was a "very exciting time" for the apprentices.

Almost 300 carriages will be built at the plant for a fleet of new trains for the East Coast Main Line in 2019.
