Twins, three, injured in dog attack

A father has described how an escaped dog attacked his three-year-old twin daughters dragging them to the ground and biting one on the head and the other on the bottom.

Chris Redshaw said he had to "wrestle" the Staffordshire-type terrier dog and prise its mouth open to get it off his daughters Candra and Lilly during the attack in Darlington.

The 33-year-old suffered bites to his hands but managed to save his girls from serious injury.

The dog has been captured and taken to be destroyed.

The dog owner, a 44-year-old woman, has been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control.

Look North's Andrew Hartley met the family after they had treatment in hospital.
