Durham Police have released CCTV images of the robbery
A gas mask-wearing armed robber who targeted a newsagent store in Darlington is being sought by police.
The man, who was also wearing a white boiler suit, entered McColl's in Whitby Way in the Branksome area of Darlington at about 20:00 GMT on Tuesday.
He threatened the female assistant with a knife and made off with an undisclosed quantity of cash.
Durham Police said no-one was injured but the woman was left extremely shaken and distressed.
Det Con Richie Garrett said: "With this in mind I would ask anyone in the area at the time mentioned to think carefully about whether or not they saw the man described."
