The planning row that led to Albert Dryden shooting dead Harry Collinson

Help

It is 20 years ago since a man shot dead a planning officer in front of television cameras.

Albert Dryden shot Derwentside District Council's chief planning officer Harry Collinson in 1991 and also wounded a BBC TV reporter and a police officer.

He was jailed for life for murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Dryden had been in dispute with the council and a digger had been on standby to demolish the house.

Derwentside council is relocating a plaque commemorating the council officer shot dead by Albert Dryden during a planning row.
