A man has appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court charged with offences under the Terrorism Act.

Mohammed Abdal Miah, from Newcastle, was arrested on Monday by officers from Northumbria Police on behalf of the North East Counter Terrorism Unit.

The 32-year-old was charged with four offences under Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006, dissemination of terrorist publications.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on 5 June.

Police said the investigation was intelligence led, and there was no evidence to suggest that any communities were at immediate risk.
