The Milburngate Bridge carries about 48,000 vehicles a day
The £1m upgrade of a main bridge through Durham city which was expected to cause traffic chaos has been completed.
Durham County Council said they only received 17 complaints about disruption caused by work on the Milburngate Bridge.
They also said they finished a day ahead of schedule.
The 50-year-old bridge carries about 48,000 vehicles a day and it won't now need further major work for 15 years.

The last cones were removed from Durham's Milburngate Bridge at about 06:30 BST
John Reed, head of technical services said: "We had expected severe delays throughout the duration of the work; however, although there was some disruption to traffic, congestion has been at a broadly manageable level.
"We would like to thank people for their patience while this essential project was carried out and for supporting us by taking alternative routes and thinking about different travel and work options."
Brian Stephens, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and local partnerships, said: "It is especially pleasing to note that throughout the duration of the work nearly 200,000 people visited our Milburngate Bridge web pages, which equates to more than 10% of all visits to our website.
"We also received just 17 complaints or queries linked to the project, which is particularly low for a scheme of this scale."
