Up to 40 homes were evacuated after a suspicious package was found in Swindon.
Bomb disposal experts were sent to Chalvedon Green after a briefcase was found next to a bin at about 1100 BST. A controlled explosion was carried out.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said the package was not believed to have been suspicious.
The residents were allowed back home at about 1300 BST, he said.
