People evacuated from a street in Devizes following reports of explosives in a flat have returned home after police and army officers searched the property.

About 50 residents of Mayenne Place were asked to leave the area on Tuesday as a precautionary measure.

Police said "information was disclosed" after the arrest of a man which led to the evacuation of some addresses.

Residents were sent to former council offices at Browfort House.

Sarah Smith, who lives just outside the area which was cordoned off, said: "When I first saw it I was a bit worried and a bit nervous about whether it was dangerous.

"But is has all calmed down now and I feel a little bit more at ease, but it was just people everywhere and busy so it was scary."

Insp Matthew Armstrong, from Wiltshire Police, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their support and patience during this incident."
