Ulster Bank has announced the appointment of Ian Jordan as its new head of business and commercial banking in Northern Ireland.

Mr Jordan has worked for Ulster Bank for 10 years.

He previously held senior positions within its business centre network, including head of Ulster Bank's Belfast City Business Centre.

A graduate of Cambridge University, he is a qualified chartered accountant.

Robert Gallagher, Ulster Bank's chief executive of corporate markets, said: "Ian brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge of Northern Ireland's business sector to his new post.

"Over the years he has been instrumental in the development and growth of our business banking division and I am confident that he will provide the dynamism, leadership and knowledge to further enhance our leading position in Northern Ireland."

Mr Jordan replaces Henry Elvin who left in November after more than 20 years at the bank.

Ulster Bank is one of the key lenders to small businesses across Northern Ireland.

In common with most Irish-based banking operations it has faced a difficult few years, with big losses on bad property loans.

Its last set of quarterly results, which cover its business across the island of Ireland, showed a £176m loss.
