Edward Connors was arrested in Dublin on Wednesday night

A convicted rapist on the run from the PSNI has been remanded in custody after being arrested in Dublin.

Edward Connors is being sought by the police in Northern Ireland after failing to turn up at a court hearing in Belfast earlier this month.

He was 15 when he twice raped an American tourist in Colin Glen forest park in west Belfast in 2008.

He was released from prison earlier this year after serving four years of an eight-year sentence.

Now 19, he breached a condition of his probation after he failed to turn up at Belfast Magistrates Court earlier this month.

He was due to answer a charge of breaching one of the conditions of his probation, in that on two occasions since last month he failed to "complete an individual programme of work to address his sexual offending."

The convicted sex offender was arrested in Dublin on Wednesday night and appeared in court on Thursday charged with failing to notify the Irish police (Garda) of his whereabouts.

The PSNI has indicated it will be seeking his extradition.
