A man has been arrested after a diesel laundering operation was raided by police and revenue customs officers in County Monaghan.

Wednesday's dawn raid was carried out on a premises at Drumacon.

The laundry was capable of washing the dye from 15m litres of diesel every year and would have cost the Irish state an estimated 8m euros a year in lost revenue.

Seven tonnes of toxic waste was found at the scene.

Six vehicles and a curtain sided lorry, fitted with a tank for transporting the fuel, were seized.
