Three men have been returned for arraignment to Londonderry Crown Court on a combined total of 87 child sex abuse charges.

The charges cover a 26-year period.

Because of the nature of the alleged offences, involving two girls and a boy, none of the defendants can be named.

The charges, which include rape, gross indecency with children and indecent assaults on children, relate to dates between 1972 and 1998.

One defendant faces nine charges, another faces 24 charges and the third defendant faces 54 charges.

At a preliminary inquiry before the magistrates court the three defendants were returned to the Crown Court for their arraignment on 20 August.

Two of them were remanded into continuing custody and the third was released on continuing bail.
