Leonard Maguire was 'really pleased' at his top UK ranking
A final-year dental student from Queen's University in Belfast has been ranked top in a UK-wide assessment.
Leonard Maguire, from Dungannon, County Tyrone, finished first among the 1,200 students who were rated during a general practice recruitment process.
Another Queen's student, Conan Mackle from Londonderry, topped the same process last year.
Queen's also placed half of its final-year students in the top 20% of those assessed.
Mr Maguire said: "I am really pleased to have been ranked number one in the UK in the recent Dental Foundation Training recruitment process.
"The teaching, training and continued support I received at Queen's means that I feel well equipped for the workplace."
The Dental Foundation Training recruitment process assesses students using professional, clinical and management scenarios and a situational judgement test.
Students from the UK's 16 dental schools and dental schools in Europe take part.
Queen's acting president and vice-chancellor, Prof James McElnay, said: "This is fantastic news for dentistry at Queen's.
"The performance of our final-year dental students in the Dental Foundation Training selection process is evidence of the university's commitment to employability as a key component of the student experience."
