Tony Blair stands down as Middle East envoy

Tony Blair is to stand down from his role as Middle East envoy representing the US, Russia, the UN and the EU, sources confirm.

The former UK prime minister has been in the job since 2007. Mr Blair has written to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon with his plan to resign.
