Scots troops set for Kabul to train Afghan army

Hundreds of Scottish troops are being deployed to Afghanistan in a non-combat role.

The soldiers from the 2 Scots Battalion, of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, are being sent to Kabul to help train the Afghan army for seven months.

Lt Col Graham Wearmouth, of 2 Scots Battalion, told BBC Newsdrive: "It is the Afghans in the lead. We are there in a supporting role helping them to develop their institutions so they can then deliver a more enduring stability to their own country."
