A project to make Edinburgh "China ready" is being launched to help the city capitalise on its growing popularity with Chinese tourists.

Figures show the number of Chinese visitors to Scotland has grown five-fold, with more than 100,000 visiting Edinburgh Castle this year alone.

And Chinese visitor numbers for the National Museums have jumped from 3% to 7% in the last year.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon recently visited China.

Robin Worsnop from Rabbies Tours and chairman of the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group said: "When we were building a strategy for 2020 a few years ago, we didn't expect the growth to be so rapid, but recent evidence shows they [Chinese tourists] have been coming in larger numbers and they spend good money when they're here.

"I think with any new visitor from a different culture, there's different expectations and different tastes and it's about opening our eyes to what those are and to support those who want to visit and make that experience better when they're here."
