McDonald's identical twin's DNA was held on a national database
A judge has delayed sentencing a rapist - who was snared by his identical twin's DNA - because of separate cases involving two notorious sex offenders.
Kevan McDonald, 34, could be placed on a lifelong restriction order with a set punishment period for raping two women and attempting to rape two others.
His sentence has been delayed while similar sentences are under challenge.
Rapist Robert Foye, 31, and paedophile, Morris Petch, 52, claim the punishment part of their orders was excessive.
At an earlier appearance at the High Court in Glasgow, McDonald, from Paisley, admitted raping a 17-year-old girl in the town and a 33-year-old woman on a cycle path near Elderslie.
He also admitted the attempted rape of two teenagers in Renfrew and Paisley.
The court heard how he was caught after DNA recovered in relation to the two rapes were found to match the profile of his identical twin brother which was on a national database.
Judge Lord Turnbull ordered McDonald to remain at the State Hospital in Carstairs while he considers placing him on a lifelong restriction order with a set punishment period.
When McDonald appeared in the dock again on Friday, Lord Turnbull said he would delay sentencing because of appeals by Foye and Petch.
They are fighting to reduce the punishment part of their lifelong restriction orders which they claim are excessive.
Their appeal is being heard by a panel of seven senior judges at the Court of Criminal Appeal.
Lord Turnbull said: "The opinion may be out in the next two or three weeks."
He ordered McDonald back to court on February, adding: "This hearing may take a little bit of time."
