Ian Rankin died after being stabbed 36 times
A man has been jailed for life for murdering his friend's father in a frenzied knife attack.
Sean Crombie, 21, admitted attacking Ian Rankin with a baton, a crutch and a knife at the victim's flat in Clydebank on 29 December last year.
Mr Rankin, 46, was stabbed 36 times in the chest and neck.
At the High Court in Aberdeen, Judge Lord Burns sentenced Crombie to life - with a minimum of 14 years and six months in jail.
After the attack, Crombie told police: "It's me you're looking for. I did it."
Sentencing him, Lord Burns said: "Ian Rankin was a 46-year-old man when you killed him in this sustained and determined attack.
"Not only did you strike him with a baton and a crutch - you then struck him with a knife 36 times.
"Those blows were struck to three areas of the body. You left him dead or dying on his living room floor in the early hours of the morning."
Mr Rankin's family shouted and called Crombie "scum" as he was jailed.
Crombie had previously admitted murdering Mr Rankin.
The High Court in Glasgow heard that the two men knew each other and Crombie was a friend of Mr Rankin's teenage son.
Killer's confession
Crombie, who was carrying a knife in the waistband of his trousers, arrived at Mr Rankin's home looking for his son.
He was not there, but Mr Rankin invited Crombie in for a drink.

Mr Rankin was killed at his flat in Graham Avenue in Clydebank
Some time later a row developed and about 01:00 neighbours heard the sound of broken glass.
After carrying out the killing Crombie, from Clydebank, confessed to his partner and his aunt.
Later that morning he turned up at the crime scene and admitted his guilt and told police: "I've got to face up to what I've done."
