Mountain rescue teams and a police helicopter have been used in the search for a missing walker.

David Alan Jones, who is known as Alan, was last seen when he left home at 17:30 on Wednesday to walk to the Cruachan Dam in Loch Awe.

The 69-year-old did not return home. Mr Jones had walked the route several times before.

He is described as around six feet one inches tall and slim.

He has thinning brown hair and a white beard and was wearing an orange ski jacket and grey/green trousers and black waterproofs on top.

He normally wears glasses and was wearing a green tartan baseball cap with a leather peak.

Sgt Gerry Welsh said: "Alan has made this journey a number of times, however he has always returned home.

"Given the inclement weather in this area recently we are extremely concerned and are keen to trace him to ensure he is all right.

"If anyone has seen Alan or has any knowledge as to his whereabouts then please do contact police as soon as possible.

"His family is very worried and just want him back home safe and well."
