A man has been taken to hospital after a fire on a boat in the Firth of Clyde.

The blaze is believed to have broken out in the engine room of the 38ft motor cruiser, while it was off Gourock pier, at about 10:17.

Two vessels came to its aid after the coastguard broadcast an alert. Two of the three people on board were taken on to the Island Princess.

The man who remained later left with rescuers and was treated in hospital for the effects of smoke inhalation.

Helensburgh RNLI lifeboat took firefighters to assess the situation.

The motor cruiser was then towed to James Watt Dock in Greenock where they confirmed that the blaze had been extinguished.
