A woman has been convicted of forcing an alleged rape victim out of Scotland before she gave evidence in court.
Sakina Majid, 65, a grandmother from Pollokshields, Glasgow, offered the woman money and threatened to "punish" her children if she did not leave.
The woman was driven to Sunderland on the day she was due to give evidence against her alleged attacker and detained against her will.
Majid was convicted of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The High Court in Glasgow heard that the man accused of rape - who cannot be named for legal reasons - never stood trial because of an apparent Crown procedural issue, and was released on bail.
Arrest warrant
There is now a warrant out for his arrest.
In evidence the alleged rape victim - who also cannot be named - told how Majid came to her house the evening before the man was due to stand trial at the High Court in Glasgow on a number of charges, including rape.
She said she was told to go and stay with Majid's friends for a while and that her children would be punished if she did not.
The jury heard the woman was driven to Sunderland where she stayed with a man and his wife who were instructed by Majid to watch her at all times.
She claimed she had no means of contacting anybody and that whenever the man left the house he disconnected the phone.
The court was told that when the woman who lived in the house showered or used the bathroom, she did so with the door open so she could watch the alleged rape victim.
In evidence the woman told how she was kept in the house and was driven back home again after a month.
Majid denied the allegations against her but was unanimously convicted of attempting to pervert the course of justice between 31 April and 30 May last year.
Sentence was deferred and her bail was continued.
