Police Scotland has recovered drugs said to have a street value of £900,000 on the Isle of Bute.

Officers stopped a van on Marine Road, Port Bannatyne, on Monday afternoon. Inside they found what is thought to be 10kg of herbal cannabis.

A follow-up search of flats in nearby Castle Street uncovered more than 2,000 cannabis plants being grown.

Three men, two of them aged 40 and the other aged 39, have been arrested in connection with the find.

Det Insp Douglas Wilson said: "Drug cultivations and recoveries are not limited to big cities; any town can be affected.

"Information from the local community is something that is vital to the force when tackling drug related crime."

The arrested men are expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
