A theatre warned customers of difficulties reaching its box office staff by phone because of demand for tickets for a talk by the Dalai Lama.

All 1,300 tickets for his appearance at Eden Court in Inverness sold out in 24 hours.

On its Facebook page and on Twitter, the theatre said its box office phones had been "very busy".

The Dalai Lama is also to give public talks in Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dundee in June.

Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, will start his tour in Manchester on 16 June and end it in Inverness on 23 June.

The Dalai Lama, who lives in exile in India, is one of the world's best known religious figures.

Religious groups invited him to visit the UK.

Earlier, Eden Court said: "The huge demand for Dalai Lama tickets means that our phones are very busy, which is why some people may have experienced difficulty getting through.

"We have staff on every one of our box office phones and we are currently working to capacity. We advise that you keep trying and please be patient."
