The part John O'Groats played in Monte Carlo Rallies of the past will be recalled during next year's event.

In 1926 Scotsman Victor Bruce became the first Briton to win the race across Europe after driving from the Caithness village to the French Riviera.

John O'Groats was a start point for the motoring endurance event until World War Two.

Mr Bruce's start from the village will be re-enacted on 27 January as part of the 2016 Monte Carlo Classic Rally.

The re-enactment will involve a gathering of vintage vehicles in John O'Groats.

Bert Macleod, chairman of Caithness and Sutherland Vintage and Classic Vehicle Club, said: "This is great for John O'Groats, for the hotels and small businesses and it will be great for our club to be in the limelight for such a world-famous event."

The official start points for the rally have still to be confirmed.
