The system was set up to help with debt recovery
A failed IT system that cost Highland Council £287,565 before it was abandoned last year has been described as a "major embarrassment".
Approved in 2012, it was set up to help the local authority improve its debt recovery and increase its income.
However, it was a failure and was abandoned in October.
Highland Council's finance director Derek Yule told councillors at a meeting in Inverness that the situation was a "major embarrassment".
An internal audit investigation found that a "full business case was not provided" for the system.
The local authority said lessons have been learnt.
