An inmate at Perth Prison has died in hospital, the Scottish Prison Service has said.

Robert Marshall, 35, was two years into a five-year sentence for theft by housebreaking.

He was convicted in June 2008 after a trial which took place at Arbroath Sheriff Court.

The prison service said police and the next-of-kin had been informed. A fatal accident inquiry will be held in due course.
