Falkirk fans banned over Hamilton disturbance

Two Falkirk fans have been banned from attending any match in the UK after being involved in a large-scale disturbance with rival Hamilton fans.

The incident happened in Hamilton town centre before the Hamilton v Falkirk match on 5 January.

Ryan Holburn, from Falkirk, was fined £400, and handed a one year Football Banning Order.

Last month, Darryn Baird of Bonnybridge was given a two year ban, and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

The incident involved up to 20 fans from each club shouting threats, swearing and challenging each other to a fight.

Elderly members of the public were caught up in the disturbance, which also forced traffic to a standstill.

The Football Banning Orders, which were granted at Hamilton Sheriff Court, mean the pair will be banned from all football matches throughout the whole of the UK.

Stephen Ferguson, football liaison prosecutor for the West of Scotland Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, said: "Public disorder such as this is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

"Innocent members of the public and ordinary, decent supporters were clearly alarmed as the large-scale disturbance ensued.

"I hope our prosecution of these individuals and today's outcome sends out a strong message to help prevent violent and disorderly conduct at football matches".
