Perth woman discovered stalker lying naked in her bed

A stalker who turned up naked in a woman's bed has been banned from going near her for 30 months.

Alan Kettles sneaked into Jennifer Fyfe's Perth home while she was out, stripped off and climbed into her bed.

The 55-year-old avoided a prison term after Perth Sheriff Court heard he had already spent the equivalent of a 14-month sentence on remand waiting for the case to be dealt with.

He was instead sentenced to supervision and 180 hours of unpaid work.

The court heard that Kettles had previously been in a relationship with Ms Fyfe, who was married at the time, and had managed to have a copy of her house key made.

Ms Fyfe, 56, broke off the affair in May last year but Kettles turned up in the house on several occasions, twice walking into her room while she was in bed at night.

Things came to a head when she returned home one day to find him lying in her bed, and when he pulled back the covers and stood up it was clear he had stripped naked.

Kettles, a prisoner at Perth, initially denied engaging in a course of conduct which caused fear and alarm to the complainer between 22 and 26 May, but changed his plea to guilty halfway through his trial.

He admitted making a copy of a door key without permission, and gaining access to Ms Fyfe's house using the copied key so he could "enter the bedroom, remove his clothing and enter her bed to wait her arrival home."

Sheriff Fiona Tait praised Ms Fyfe, who had given evidence during the trial, saying: "I was impressed by her evidence; she took a very sensible approach to matters and didn't seek to exaggerate what had taken place."
