A man who kicked his father in the chest so hard he left a footprint has been jailed for more than two years.

Dylan Conway admitted setting fire to his father's front door and assaulting the 46-year-old at an a block of flats in Dundee.

The 20-year-old initially told paramedics that his dad Patrick had sustained the broken ribs in a fall, before they found the footprint which matched the pattern on Conway's shoes.

He was jailed for a total of 29 months.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard that Conway had been told to leave the flat by his father in September 2014, and had reacted by setting fire to napkins and pushing them through the door.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of wilful fire-raising, and also admitted breaching bail on 12 October and an assault on 28 May of this year.

Sheriff George Way jailed Conway for 29 months and imposed a one-year supervised release order.

He told him: "For these types of offence and with the background I'd be failing my duty to the public if I didn't bring home the fact that there needs to be protection by a period of custody.

"You know how serious this is - I'm not going to give you a long lecture.

"The assault was something that cannot be tolerated."
