Dundee sex attacker has prison sentence cut on appeal

A man jailed for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in Dundee has had his prison sentence reduced on appeal.

Connor Tait was sentenced to four years behind bars and a further four years of supervision for the July 2013 attack.

However, the 22-year-old had the custodial part of the sentence cut to three and a half years after the original conviction was quashed and replaced with a more limited one.

Tait's lawyers argued that there was no corroboration for parts of the charge.

The new conviction deletes an aggravation to the sexual assault, which Lady Smith said was a "significant matter which should be recognised by means of a reduction in the sentence".

However, she said it would not be appropriate to interfere with the extended part of the sentence imposed by Sheriff Richard Davidson at Dundee Sheriff Court in September 2014.
