Fire crews were called out after 150 straw bales went up in flames at a farm in Murthly

Police have urged residents to be on the lookout for "suspicious activity" after two fires broke out in rural Perthshire.

Officers urged residents to be vigilant after 150 bales of straw were caught up in a late-night blaze in Murthly on Tuesday.

Fire crews and the police have launched an joint investigation into the fire.

Crews were also called out earlier the same day when a caravan caught fire at nearby Dean's Park, Dunkeld.

Two crews from Blairgowrie were sent to the Muthly farm fire when it was reported at 23:17.

Group manager Billy McLintock said there was risk of the blaze spreading to more bales and a nearby tree plantation, which had to be protected as crews extinguished the flames.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said residents should "remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity".

She said: "Those living and working in rural communities are asked to be aware of these types of incidents, and where possible consider if there are any preventative measures that can be taken to ensure the safety of property."
