Aberystwyth student records dating back almost 150 years will be digitised and transcribed to create a fully searchable record.

The records, dating back to 1872 when the university first opened, are in 10 leather-bound manuscripts.

But it has been difficult for researchers to access the information in the manuscripts.

The project was funded by alumni and the Cardiff branch of the Aberystwyth University Old Students' Association.

It is a joint project with the National Library of Wales.
