Information booklets on the Welsh assembly powers referendum will be sent to every home

A public information campaign about the Welsh assembly powers referendum has been launched.

Adverts about the 3 March vote will appear on television, radio and in newspapers.

With a month until voters go to the polls, the Electoral Commission is sending a referendum booklet to every home in Wales.

Meanwhile, an assembly-organised bus tour encouraging people to vote made its final stop before the referendum.

The commission's head in Wales, Kay Jenkins, said: "Thursday 3 March is a big day for voters in Wales.

"We are sending every household in the country a booklet to give voters the information they need to have their say on 3 March.

"Look out for the booklet dropping through your door from next week or get one from our website, aboutmyvote.co.uk, external."

Voters will be asked to decide whether the assembly should have further law-making powers in devolved policy areas.

The deadline for registering is Wednesday, 16 February.

The assembly is running its own campaign to encourage people to go out and vote in the referendum, in May's assembly election and in the UK-wide referendum on changing the way MPs are elected.

It has targeted voters aged 18 to 35 through social networking websites.

On Friday a Vote 2011 bus tour made its final stop before the referendum in Bangor. Presiding Officer Lord Elis-Thomas is meeting first-time voters at Ysgol Tryfan and hold a question-and-answer session at Bangor University.

He described it as a very important year and said: "We are going to be asked to not only choose who represents us in the Senedd but also whether those elected representatives should have more powers to make Welsh laws.

"My message is a very simple one, it's your National Assembly for Wales, so please have your say."
