Safe staffing levels have been made a priority in the Royal College of Nursing's health manifesto for 2016.

The campaign urges Welsh politicians to support its initiatives ahead of next year's assembly elections.

Continuing safe staffing levels have already passed through the first stage of the law-making process at the assembly.

The priorities are based on results from the RCN Wales survey this year.

The nursing manifesto, called Time to Care 2016, is being launched at the Senedd on Tuesday evening by the RCN, which represents 24,500 members in the profession in Wales.

Its director in Wales Tina Donnelly said: "We would urge all politicians in Wales irrespective of their party to read our document and take note of its content.

"By listening to the ideas of nurses and healthcare support workers we will be able to work together to improve the health of the people of Wales and safeguard healthcare services."
