350 'good public service jobs' lost in Wrexham, says union

All tax offices in Wales are to close with staff expected to transfer to Cardiff or north west England.

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is shutting more than a hundred offices to be replaced by new regional centres, with up to 3,800 employed in Cardiff.

Offices in Wrexham, Swansea, Porthmadog and the present Cardiff base at Llanishen will close. An office in Merthyr is already due to shut in 2016.

HMRC Chief Executive Lin Homer said the organisation had "too many expensive, isolated and outdated offices".

But Steve Ryan from the PCS union in Wrexham said closing the office there would be a blow to the town, and to staff unable to transfer to Liverpool.
