How big is Cyclone Yasi?
Residents of Queensland, Australia, are bracing themselves for disaster after Cyclone Yasi made landfall. The two maps below illustrate the enormous scale of the storm. With winds of up to 290km/h (181mph), Yasi is as powerful as Hurricane Katrina, which struck New Orleans in 2005, killing 1,800 people and causing $81bn (£50bn) of damage.

Yasi is about 650km wide - large enough to engulf the UK, as the comparison below shows.
