A man charged with sending a pig's head to the home of a police officer in County Clare has been remanded in custody after being extradited to the Republic of Ireland from Spain.
At Ennis Circuit Court, a solicitor for Brendan Mahony, 47, of Cabra Park, Dublin, said his client would be pleading not guilty to the alleged offence.
He said a trial would be required.
He said there would be no application for bail.
The appearance in court on Thursday followed Irish police executing a European arrest warrant for Mr Mahony's arrest.
He was first charged in relation to the alleged offence in July 2012.
In July 2013, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest when he failed to return to the Republic of Ireland from a holiday in Spain.
The previous month, a judge had varied Mr Mahony's bail conditions and returned his passport to allow him go on holiday.
A police sergeant flew out to Madrid on Wednesday and accompanied Mr Mahony back on a flight that arrived into Dublin airport on Thursday shortly after midday.
In court on Thursday, the sergeant gave evidence of executing the arrest warrant for Mr Mahony at Dublin airport.
